Detention Deputy

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for one detention deputy. Detention deputies start at $18.73 an hour (DOE) plus benefits.  Applicants must submit a current law enforcement application with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, by 5 p.m. June 4, 2021, either at 200 Courthouse Way, Rigby, ID 83442, or by e-mail.

The work of a detention deputy involves responsibility for the protection of life and property, and the safe housing of local, State, and Federal prisoners housed in the Jefferson County jail.  Duties normally consist of intake, classification, housing, cell checks, and facilitating various programs. Detention deputies may also be assigned duties as court bailiffs and transport officers. Work involves an element of personal danger. The employee must be able to exercise sound independent judgment under stress and maintain a sufficient level of physical and mental fitness and preparedness. Work schedules are comprised of 12-hour shifts with 4 day rotations. Applicants will be required to work any or all days of the week including weekends and holidays. Jail schedules alternate between both day and night shifts.

Applicants must be at least 21, a U.S. Citizen, and meet other requirements associated with qualifying to work in law enforcement.

Patrol Deputy

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for one patrol deputy. Patrol deputies start at $18.73 an hour (DOE) plus benefits.  Applicants must submit a current law enforcement application with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, by 5 p.m. June 4, 2021.

The Patrol Deputy has primary responsibility for handling calls for service, and providing patrol coverage for the County. He/she patrols the roadways to detect and enforce violations of Idaho’s traffic and criminal code and local ordinances. Patrol Deputies perform a full range of law enforcement duties to include, but not limited to; checks on suspicious vehicles and persons, assists stranded motorists, removes abandon vehicles, euthanizes wild and domestic animals when needed, searches for lost, missing, or drowned persons, delivers emergency messages to include death notifications, business checks, responds to business and residential alarms, serves criminal and civil process papers and court orders. 

Investigates auto, aircraft, and industrial accidents. Reports to accident scenes to render first aid to injured persons and provide traffic control. Maintains control of accident scenes and provides protection for other first responders. Investigates cause and responsibility for the accident and prepares accurate reports. Performs all other duties as prescribed by Idaho Code 31-2202.

Applicants must be at least 21, a U.S. Citizen, high school diploma or equivalent, plus sufficient education and/or training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above mentioned and related duties.  Meet the minimum Idaho P.O.S.T. qualifications.  Must be able to pass a background check, written test, physical fitness testing, and a polygraph test.  Meet all other requirements associated with qualifying to work in law enforcement.

Equipment Operator - Solid Waste

An equipment operator position is open for the Jefferson County Solid Waste Department. This is a full time, 40 hours per week position. A Class A CDL license is required and the starting pay is $16.91/hr. This operator will work at the Circular Butte Landfill in Terreton and at the County Line Landfill in Rigby. One truck driver/equipment operator position is open for the Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department in the Rigby area.
